Dear Camper,

Many thanks booking your 2024 York Cycle Rally & Festival campsite pitch in advance. We can't wait to see you next weekend, and here are some final details for a smooth arrival and stay.

On arrival

By bike or on foot, please just come in through the entrance at the Racecourse end of Knavesmire Road.

If coming by car/motorhome/caravan, please come to the entrance half way along Knavesmire Road (opposite the junction with Knavesmire Crescent). The best satnav postcode to use is YO23 1EX - although that postcode sometimes takes you fiurther along Knavesmire Road to the Racecourse buildings (please turn around if so!). What you need is the big gates on Knavesmire Road: see them here on Google Streetview. There’s plenty of room to swing in even with a big caravan.

You’ll then be marshalled to park up so that you can check in before you move onto the campsite itself – please just follow directions.

You will need to visit the check-in tent (the small tent on the right hand side of the road just after you've crossed over the horse racing track) to check in and receive details of your allocated pitch, before you move onto the campsite itself.
  • If you arrive by bike or on foot, you can go straight to the check-in tent from 2 pm.
  • If you arrive in a motor vehicle, please park up in the main car park and do not attempt to drive across the horse racing track onto the main campsite (unless marshalls instruct you to). Please go on foot or by bike to the check-in tent, which will be open for pre-booked campers from Friday 2 pm. We cannot allow motor vehicles on site before 4 pm: the volunteer set-up team needs the time to fully prepare the site and make it safe.
  • As you queue for the check-in please keep the roadway clear.
On Friday evening...

  • Campers arriving on the Friday should note that there will be food and real ale available on Friday evening from our caterers on site – and do please support the on-site vendors, as a percentage of the takings goes to help support the Rally.
  • You might also like to take part in our Quiz on Friday evening in the bar from 7:30pm.
Please also note:
  1. The camping fee covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The site must be vacated by 10am prompt on Monday morning please.
  2. The site speed limit for ALL vehicles is 5 mph. This includes cyclists! The Knavesmire is still open to the public, and pedestrians and/or dogs could be anywhere on site.
  3. No vehicles will be permitted in the lightweight camping area. Anyone wishing to camp in this area with a vehicle must park it in the main car park near the main entrance.
  4. NEW: Motor vehicle access closures for safe ride departures! Concerns were raised during and after the 2023 event about motor vehicle movements amid crowds of cyclists and pedestrians. For 2024 we also have a much expanded rides schedule and in the busy periods on Saturday and Sunday morning, rides will be leaving every 10 minutes So after careful consideration we will trial new access restrictions this year:

To keep riders and pedestrians safe, the main access (where you cross the horse racing track) and the road along the enclosure fence (where rides depart) will be closed to motor vehicles during these time periods:
    • Saturday: 8:45 am to 10:35 am
    • Sunday: 8:45 am to 9:45 am
    • We can make exceptions only for emergencies, so please plan ahead so as not to need to enter or leave the site in this period except on foot or by bike. Please ask at the Info Hub if you nonetheless absolutely must take a motor vehicle in or out during these times.
Saddlebag Sale – donations of items welcome!

Donations of cycling items are welcome – please bring your spare kit and help raise funds for the Rally and Festival.

We’ll have a table set aside in the Saddlebag Sale cycle jumble for sellable donated cycling gear, which will be sold to raise funds for the event. All parts and accessories, good condition clothing and even complete bikes are very welcome. Please bring your donations to Rally HQ before 10 am on Sunday morning. If you’d like to donate a complete bike, please bring it to HQ before 10 am, on Saturday, so that we can enter it into the auction.

All funds raised will go to supporting the Really & Festival, and any items left unsold will be donated to local cycling organisations or disposed of.

Any items deemed unsellable will be added to the 'take in exhange for a donation to Rally funds" area by the corner of the enclosure fence, where all are welcome to leave or take items throughout the event.
