Dear Camper,

Thank you for your 2018 York Rally campsite booking and for your support for the re-launched York Rally.

On arrival

By bike, just come in through the entrance at the Racecourse end of Knavesmire Road.

If coming by car/motorhome/caravan, come to the entrance half way along Knavesmire Road (opposite the junction with Knavesmire Crescent). Satnav to YO23 1EX - although that sometimes takes you the the Racecourse buildings. What you need is the big gates on Knavesmire Road: see it on Google Streetview. There’s plenty of room to swing in even with a big caravan. You’ll then be marshalled until you can move onto the site – please just follow directions.

When you arrive on site you will need to go to the camp headquarters (the small tent just near the site entrance, close to the crossing over the racetrack as you come in) to check in and receive details of your allocated pitch.

Please note:
  1. The campsite does not officially open until 4pm on Friday 22nd June. Please do not arrive early as pitches will not be allocated before we are ready to open. The camping fee covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The site must be vacated by 10am Monday morning.
  2. The site speed limit for ALL vehicles is 5 mph. This includes cyclists! The Knavesmire is still open to the public, and pedestrians and/or dogs could be anywhere on site.
  3. No vehicles will be permitted in the lightweight camping area. Anyone wishing to camp in this area with a vehicle must park it in the main car park near the main entrance.
Friends of York Rally
The event is run by a group of volunteer cyclists from the north of England. We are not supported by any umbrella groups or national cycling organisations. The event is entirely self funded and therefore we need to ensure that our income meets the cost of running the event. Our aim is not to make huge profits but to generate sufficient profits to guarantee the future of the Rally.

If you wish to further support the event you can do so by joining the Friends of York Rally for the annual membership fee of £5. You can join online at our website: www.yorkrally.org/friends - or pop along to see the team at the Rally.

If you have any suggestions for funding to help to keep your Rally alive please get in touch via info@yorkrally.org or on 0746 732 1443.

Volunteers needed
If you can spare an hour or two over the weekend that would be a huge help. Many of the organizing team are no longer young and for physical jobs in particular, many hands make light work. Jobs we need help with include:

Before the site opens: setting up the site, marking pitches and laying out the grass track circuit. This will be from Wednesday morning. Volunteers who can arrive early (Wednesday or Thursday) are especially appreciated! But please contact us as above before arriving early.

Over the weekend:
  • Helping with keeping the site tidy
  • Manning the Friends of York Rally stand
  • Helping marshal the ride back from the Minster service
  • Booking campers in on the Friday evening & Saturday morning
  • On Sunday afternoon: help sorting equipment and put it back into the lockup
  • plus 101 other little jobs that crop up over the course of the weekend.
If you can stay until Monday morning we also need people to help to check that the site is returned to the state we received it in: this includes picking up litter or finishing putting equipment back into the lockup.

You may have already ticked the volunteering form when you booked: if not please register online at www.yorkrally.org/volunteer or e-mail volunteer@yorkrally.org or call us on 0746 732 1443

The Rally is run by an all-volunteer committee, and if you can dedicate time or skills we would love to hear from you. If anybody is interested in joining the committee please just come along to a meeting (see the Rally website for details) or get in touch on the number above, or by email at info@yorkrally.org

Saddlebag Sale – donations of items welcome!

Donations welcome! – please bring your spare kit and help raise funds for the Rally. We’ll have a table set aside in the Saddlebag Sale cycle jumble for donated cycling gear, which will be sold to raise funds for the Rally. All parts and accessories, good condition clothing and even complete bikes are very welcome.

All funds raised will go to supporting the Rally, and any items left unsold will be donated to the York organisation “Bikes in Need” who provide bikes, locks and lights to newly arrived refugees.

Please bring your donations to Rally HQ before 10AM on Sunday morning. If you’d like to donate a complete bike, please bring it to HQ before 10AM on Saturday, so that we can enter it into the auction.

And finally
Please get in touch as soon as possible if you have any questions. If you contact the team please have patience and give them a few days to reply as most of the team have full time jobs and can only deal with queries in their limited spare time.

Yours sincerely,
The York Rally Campsite Team
