2019 York Rally: dates confirmed, campsite bookings open! And the Sportive adds a Retro ride...

Dear fellow cyclist,

With memories of the 2018 York Rally still fresh, the all-volunteer organising committee recently came together for a first planning meeting, and set the wheels in motion for next year. We're hoping to take on board all of the feedback received after the last Rally (see our previous newsletter) and make the 2019 event the best yet!

York Rally 2019 22-23 June - campsite bookings open!

We have final confirmation of the dates (22-23 June) so are happy to announce that campsite bookings for the York Rally 2019 are open now! You'll save at least a tenner by booking at the super-earlybird rates (available until end of December) and advance bookings really help our planning, too.

Might you fancy arriving early for a few extra days in York? We're always looking for more volunteers to help out in the few days before the Rally opens, to set up the site - or if you can't get there a whole day or more early, we could also use helpers who arrive early on Friday morning. Please just make a regular campsite booking and add a note that you'd like to arrive early - or register here as a volunteer - and as a helper you'll be most welcome to camp the extra nights (Wednesday and/or Thursday) at no extra cost.

Unfortunately the Rally's finances do not yet permit any volunteer discounts, so all volunteers (and indeed Committee members) camping on site do need to make a standard booking. Thank you in advance for your support!

Saddlebag Sale - book tables, declutter and donate!

All tables sold out at this year's Saddlebag Sale (the Rally's cycle jumble, which takes place on the Sunday). So to be sure of a place next year, book your table now for 2019 at the earlybird rate of £10 - this rises to £12 after the end of December 2018.

This year, as you will have seen, we had a table set aside outside the Saddlebag Sale for donated cycling gear, which was sold to raise funds for the Rally. This raised a tremendous £450 and we're hoping that next year we can raise even more.

So please do save up any unwanted parts and accessories, good condition clothing and even complete bikes which you might like to donate to help the Rally. Simply bring your items to next year's Rally and drop them off ASAP at Rally HQ - or we can also accept them at any of our regular planning meetings in York, at which all are welcome. The next is on the 24th November - full details are below or on the 'Committee' page of the York Rally website.

You support with donated items is much appreciated. Why not free up much needed space for a good cause - please do declutter and donate :-)

Fundraising Sportive & Retro, 28 April 2019: enter now or volunteer!

Each year the Rally volunteer team run a Sportive ride into the lovely lanes north of York, raising significant sums to help fund the core costs of running the Rally. So please do lend your support, as a rider or volunteer, to the 2019 York Rally Fundraising Sportive, on Sunday 28 April 2019!

Our experienced all-volunteer team looks forward to welcoming riders on the challenging 140k or 100k rides on well proven routes into the beautiful North York Moors - and this year there's also a gentler 80k "Retro Classic" route for connoisseurs of classic cycles, as you'll see below.

All riders will enjoy fabulous food from our catering team, and a grand day's riding all round under the watchful eye of highly experienced organiser Pete Dunn. Come on, ride the Dunnie!

All the details are here, or you can enter via British Cycling here. Advance entries are just £25 - on the day (if spaces are left) it's £30. All funds raised go to support the York Rally!

This year we're adding a gentler, shorter 50-mile (80 km) "Retro Classic" ride for classic cycle connoisseurs - but it still finds its way to the same fabulous main food stop as the other rides, at Marton. Ride in syle! Click for full details about the Retro Classic, including how to enter.

Help spread the word

High resolution versions of all of the 'posters' featured in this email can be downloaded here - and we'll also be printing them up as double-sided A5 leaflets, with the Rally on one side and Sportive on the other. Please just let us know if you'd like a bundle to distribute!

For something even easier to carry with you as you ride, print out our 2019 'Rally & Coxwold' cards - simply print out this PDF onto A4, cut it up and hand out the cards to fellow cyclists as you're out and about!

And finally

All are very welcome at our next York Rally planning meeting, and AGM, which is to be held from 10AM on the 24th November 2018 at St Chad’s on the Knavesmire Church Hall, Campleshon Road, York. Please just let us know if you would like a lift from the railway station.

Thanks again for your support of the York Rally - we're already looking forward to seeing many of you next year!

Yours sincerely,
The York Rally Team
