York Rally Newsletter: 13th Dec 2015

Dear fellow cyclists,

Many thanks for joining this mailing list via the York Rally website!

First, our apologies for the long delay since our last newsletter. Setting up a new email system which could cope with the volume of mail we now have to send had to wait on changes to the website -  thankfully, now all complete! We are now set up to handle email lists of several thousand recipients. If there are any problems with the mails from this new system, please do let me know (publicity@yorkally.org).

Since the first revived Rally in June 2015, the committee has been working mostly behind the scenes, as well as recovering! But progress has been made for the 2016 event, and all of the latest developments were reported at our recent AGM on the 3rd December: there is a fuller report on the website here:

But in brief, it is good news all round!

- We are in good shape financially after the 2015 Rally.

- We resolved to start the process of changing to a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation).

- We have two excellent new committee members. But there are still vacancies for more to join. Please do contact us if you're interested!

- The council have at last confirmed (after many months of negotiation) that we will be able to use the central area of the Knavesmire site in 2016 - it was fenced off for the 2015 event. This will make for a much better layout, with the grasstrack arena back at the heart of the event.

- We ended up with the 18/19th June 2016 dates (again, after several months of negotiation - initally we wanted 25/26th June, as printed in the 2015 show programme, partly to avoid a clash with the Eroica Brittania. The 18/19th weekend does, however, avoid a clash with the British Cycling Road Racing Championships happening on the 23-26th in Stockton-on-Tees. So we hope that'll help us attract a good grasstrack racing turnout.

See the website report linked above for more!

Meanwhile, we'd love to welcome as many of you as possible to the Rally in 2016. Entry to site and activities will again be totally free of charge.

But to get the full atmosphere of the event it's hard to beat staying the whole weekend and camping on site - whether motorised (caravan, motorhome, car/tent) or lightweight/non-motorised (tents, arriving by foot or bike). Campsite bookings include up to three nights (Arrive Friday after 4PM, leave Monday morning by 10AM). We have kept prices the same as last year, with the same generous early booking discounts, but the cheapest campsite pitch prices end on the 31st December! Please book your pitch now to benefit :-)

Many thanks again for your interest in the York Rally! We'll keep you updated with more occasional newsletters as we firm up the organisation of the 2016 event. We hope to see you on the Knavesmire in June!

With our best wishes for the festive season and happy cycling in the new year,

The York Rally Committee
